Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
This is a bizarre question but is anyone's local Wilko not discounting the own brand copier paper? Two branches I've been in near me have everything discounted but the copier paper, with it being sold at full price. I guess it must be sale or return - but even still, it's all still Wilko branded an...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Looks like Poundland are running these shops with a very light touch rebranding: https://www.sloughobserver.co.uk/news/23824921.wilko-reopens-poundland-today-maidenhead-high-street/ I imagine it's temporary but I expected them to close and put their normal fit out (which isn't especially elaborate) ...

I think it is the online team but I agree it feels very glib to me.

Darlington is apparently in a similar situation, and the store's closure has lead to the car park temporarily closing until the lifts can be locked out of use: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tees-66897703 Both ex. Presto stores. Darlington is different to North Shields though, the lifts are ...

Re: Lovely Lightbulbs
My kitchen, of the no window + 5x GU10 fame, has now been upgraded to Philips Hue bulbs with a motion sensor and its the best thing I've done in ages. Being able to just leave them to turn themselves on / off and have them come on dimmer at night is a real timesaver. The Hue app itself though is a ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
The Range is overpriced and full of absolute tut.
Wilko wasn't immune to 'live laugh love'-level shite but until the end of their life were always decent on price.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Sadly I was right :(
I should imagine the bulk of stores will close very quickly now as there's hardly any stock to burn through, perhaps leaving a rump.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
I wonder if Hammersmith closing is down to lease issues rather than poor sales? It's in the King's Mall in Hammersmith, so has prime footfall to the tube stations. I presume it's simply because the financials don't work for any of the bidders, too prime perhaps. I suspect Walsall is the opposite pr...
