Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Oddly though, with a limited store portfolio, Fopp is exactly the kind of shop which could/should exist. HMV was too middling and didn't know who to aim at over the last decade, whereas Fopp mostly pulled off some indy credibility while being accessible, despite being taken under the wing of a mains...

https://twitter.com/MattJF/status/290908200193118211 Is it just me that thinks he should be banned for believing that his ITN badge and hairnet should turn him in to some kind of forum royalty? As we all know, such status is reserved for the administrators of spin-off discussion services. Ha. But s...

Re: Sput's recessionary cooking corner
Hardly a revelation, but my contribution is to make bumloads of chilli and freeze a few days worth - added bonus of tasting better when reheated and takes all of 15 minutes to make.

Re: Diets
Bit of a cliché I know but I don't really believe in diets. If you can cut down on crappy snacks and master portion control (sticking a ton of rice with everything being a bit of a weakness for me) it's not hard to eat decently without needing to obsess over the details. If you're willing to move ab...

Re: Coffee
Every morning, I have a grotty mug of instant (2.5 tsps) at home in a bid to make me vaguely human, even though it tastes like bitter piss. If my travelling Bodum isn't in ruin, it's a minor upgrade to pre-ground 'real' coffee. After that, it's freshly-ground Americanos at work (roughly a double sho...

Re: Is facebook on the wane?
Its been almost a year since I started this thread. I'd say the amount which is getting posted is slowing down further. Is Facebook just a fad that's slowly dying out? Now some of this decline might be down to the fact that as everyone gets older, settled down they have less time or just don't feel...

Re: Adverts that irritate and entertain
Amazon joining the "tech company with vague 'we are cool' ad" brigade (following Facebook's yukky contribution) but this manages to come across as even more arrogant and charmless.

Re: Scottish independence
However if Scotland was to become independant what would occur is that a similar tax revenue would then have to pay for a bucket load of extra tripe that is not required at the moment as it is shared with the rest of the UK. I'm not really in a position to judge the extent to which we're 'subsidise...

My ringtone is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0RPK76gpSw
My text sound is some uninteresting default noise.

Re: Apple Crumble?
I'm in two minds about iOS. I agree that so much of it feels very dated. I've always found the modal blue dialogs to be among the ugliest UI elements on any platform, and the dense home screen on the iPhone (at least given some room to breathe on iPad) is really unattractive, never mind the fundamen...

Re: Trademark symbols ™
I thought that the use of trademark symbols was irrelevant for The Rest Of Us - instead a way for businesses to assert their ownership of a mark (so in the case of infringement they can point to having signposted it with a big ®). I may have made this up...
