Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
[they] are working at pace One of my least favourite expressions, and one which seems to be everywhere in business (and the Civil Service) these days. I’ve long imagined this to be a mishearing of the word “apace” which has become so common as to be generally accepted, but I’ve really no idea wheth...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
I suppose there is probably more margin and profitability in housing or selling the land off than continuing to run the store as is. Increased costs of staff, costs of shipping, and whilst it might be busy, are people actually buying anything - not just taking the kids out to stretch their legs!? Ge...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread
One thing I really like about Amex is when you pay towards the balance using a debit card it updates instantly. They do seem a cut above the rest in terms of service level and their computer systems. I'm also an Amex card holder and when I signed up on a Saturday afternoon, the card was in my door ...

Has anyone noticed a quiet withdrawal of Danish vanilla crowns as part of their bakery range?
It seems to be the same for Tesco too, has their manufacturer gone under?

It IT isn't great at McDs - the amount of times that I have been to one of those self order screens to find it isn't working, or the printer is knackered.

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
MyWaitrose's withdrawal of its free newspaper for "something new" as I think they said is, actually, a return of the exact same personalised offers system that they withdrew around three or four years ago because customers found it "confusing". And they've now made it even more ...

Re: The Co-op Thread
They've updated the voice of the self-service tills in my local Co-op. A shame that they've gone from a friendly sounding voice to somebody sounding like they don't really want to do their job... I know it’s an accessibility thing and all that probably but I wish we could just have a grown-up self ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
I don't find the paper bags particularly awful. What is it that you do to these that makes them worse than plastic? The problem with recycling in the UK is that there is no joined up policy. Venture from one part of the country to the other, and the materials and method in which they are collected v...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread
It seems like Sainsbury's only bothers to install Pay at Pump when it's time for new pumps to be installed - most of their stations still seem to have the older blue pumps. I can vouch for this one, they recently re-did my nearest one (Staines) and pay at pump appeared after the refurb. They've all...
