Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread
the Asda in Govan has never had a shop - I think it was built with a drive-through kiosk (and possibly pay at pump only for some of the lanes). It must be about 25 years old. Aren't all ASDA stores like that, all the ones I've ever been including pretty much all of them in the North East which aren...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
Never realised the Wilkinsons in North Shields used to be a supermarket aswell but makes sense thinking about it now, guessing that shut at the same time as Preston Grange as it's always been Wilkinson's in my life time. Yeah Safeway in the Beacon Centre closed in 1995. That nightmare of a cafe has...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
Don't believe so. Redcar was never a Safeway. It was built as a Morrison's in the 90's I believe. I can remember my local store (Tynemouth) definitely used to have a system back in the 90's so I believe all the stores had them at some point. Do you recall the replacement Preston Grange Presto that ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
Morrisons at Redcar still have their old digital counter up (or did the last time I was in a few month ago) can see it here - https://www.google.com/maps/uv?pb=!1s0x487efaa7e9a68d6d%3A0x9be0034aaf4ac996!3m1!7e115!4shttps%3A%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipMTrYmZ1vdM9-m78l15qyN0QJOl2GShve...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
Noticed that the Tesco website has been updated for the Metro stores now on which ones are going to a Superstore or Express. Jesmond, Newcastle Eldon Sq, Rowlands Gill, Durham and Sunderland are going Express Langley Moor and Carlisle are going Superstore That's the N East stores so pretty much all ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
I can remember one supermarket (possibly Asda) trialling a till system that allowed it to be both manned or self serve, with the screen spinning round and the interface changing depending on what mode it was in. Never really seen them since so I guess it was logistically a bit of a challenge - not ...

Re: Intu takeover called off
The Intu firesale has ramped up recently. With the news that Metrocentre is sold , it seems only Chapelfield (Norwich), Trafford Centre and Uxbridge remain in the group (as well as stakes in St. Davids (Cardiff) and the Arndale (Manchester). Trafford Centre was widely tipped to return to The Peel G...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
I didn't even know they had actual mills with restaurants and that. It was the high street retail business I meant. Ah they're not, they're just basically all the brands in one place with a restaurant on site where coaches dump pensioners off for a few hours in old Mills or the like - tbh most them...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
If all of the EWM brands disappeared overnight, what would be the gap they leave behind? I honestly don't think there would be one at all. I saw these a while back: https://up.metropol247.co.uk/102020/t/1602574280_1143794682.jpeg https://up.metropol247.co.uk/102020/t/1602574279_903119910.jpeg I can...
