Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread
They're fitting out a new Sainsbury's Local between Shoreditch and Liverpool St, or at least I think it should be a Local as it seems to have no depth, but the signs in the windows so far are suggesting it's just "Sainsbury's". Possible phasing out of the Local brand? It did make me wonder if ...

https://c7.alamy.com/comp/2BWJW8C/1995-then-brand-new-morrisons-supermarket-darlington-north-east-england-2BWJW8C.jpg - That's a 1990's Morrison's and can remember my local store (Tynemouth) being near identical as they're both a similar age.
look how spacious that entrance is compared to the ...

Re: Old supermarket signage
Some people here might appreciate the new Morrisons advert where they've attempted to recreate part of old store interiors:

That's interesting. Those look like recreations rather than original pieces of old signage (aside from the yellow box fridge ...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
Morrisons have introduced some smaller plastic trollies and wheeled baskets at all stores I believe, alongside the child trollies. They don't seem to have reduced the number of metal trollies at my local Morrisons in response, however.
Yeah it seems very specific which stores got them, I know ...

Re: Old supermarket signage
The floor tiles in the Foods section in M&S Lewisham has little green diamonds in them - I'm not aware of the vintage but certainly haven't seen them elsewhere.
Probably doesn't fall under the remit of 'old signage'.
Haven't a picture of them but will make sure to next time I'm in there.
80's ...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
My local Sainsburys is like that where there is always a trolley available but only just, they’ll be never no more than about a dozen in the trolley park outside
Either there is a shortage or they’ve sacked the trolley collectors and they are all up the far end of the car park
They all seem ...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
On the plus side, stores seem to have been sent signage for their (bizarre) little seating areas dotted around the stores now, rather than the home-made stuff each store was bodging together.
These random seats have clearly come from a “what zero-cost thing can we do?” meeting. I was ready to ...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
I was just thinking about this - it seems such an odd decision. So now we are either going to see tons of stores with old branding, or they are going to pull a Morrisons and rip down all those signs after only a year or two and replace them...
It wouldn't be so bad but the old branding feels ...

Re: Old supermarket signage
The one at Dundee Riverside still has one as well... which is interesting as I don't think that store was even built until the mid-late 90s, after they'd stopped being a normal part of Tesco architecture (though maybe the store's older than it looks).
And the Tesco in Monifieth still had the old ...

Not the main signage, but there's this clinging on at Darlington North Road - https://www.google.com/maps/@54.5377816,-1.5525538,3a,15y,278.5h,89.77t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sbzIsiNPZtsTl7w12WRXVdg!2e0!5s20230401T000000!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread
I'm not too sure about that, the cards still exist but are extremely rare. You need online authentication to take a payment though - which obviously was a problem.
Debit cards can be used offline.
