Re: Battery calibration...

Haven't posted a technical query for a good few days, so I thought I'd post one... I've just tried to follow the battery calibration steps on my new Macbook Air. I drained the battery, then started charging again, but then realised about an hour later that I was supposed to leave it asleep f...

Re: DOS problems - differences between NTVDM in XP and Vista

virtualising freedos might be a good way forward though, it should give you at the very least full-screen "windows" support, it will just be seeing if you can print using it. in theory it should work - i've had the generic intel drivers working on freedos in the past for such an a project...

Re: Door to door broadband?

surely door-to-door selling is the pursuit of religious cults such as the catholic church and jehovah's witnesses, whatever the hell they are. i'm really surprised that a fairly reputable company like talktalk would recruit door to door sellers. any sort of commission based selling like this is ope...

Re: The Pope

(this post is most likely going to be satirical and is not meant to cause offence on any grounds whatsoever) There's something about being Pope that is sort of.. ironic given current workplace tendencies. The average age of somebody becoming Pope is about 70 years old. Now if you were 70 years old t...

Re: Buying vs renting

I rent, and am seemingly the only person alive with no specific desire to 'get on the property ladder'. Short of winning the lottery or other big windfall, I don't imagine that I'll ever own my house - and I don't particularly care. I have a very reasonable rent (If I took out a mortgage on a place...

Re: Analytics for an old website

Here's the scenario - someone is trying to demonstrate the validity of their trademark by showing the relevant examiners that a website was up and running from around 2001, and was viewed by people outwith the part of the UK they are from. There were no analytics or other tracking software/code emb...

Re: Help me find a Freeview box that doesn't die after a yea

Welcome to the world of buying things from Argos. Either it's junk, totally dead or dies exactly 366 days after you bought it. Anyway one of the most redeeming features of buying anything from Argos is the length of the queue to take stuff back. With regards to the Freeview box, I don't see why you ...

Re: RIP Windows 2000: 17 February 2000 - 13 July 2010

Microsoft stated from the outset with Windows XP that when it reaches the end of its life, steps would be taken to disable it (activation, not XP :D) More likely, however, since I suspect that because XP, Vista, Office and 7 (and a bunch of other future things no doubt) all probably go through the s...

Re: RIP Windows 2000: 17 February 2000 - 13 July 2010

OK, geeky post... Not that many people will care, but techie geeks may care to note that today is the final day of Windows 2000 support (oh, and XP SP2 aswell - you now need to have SP3 installed to keep getting updates for XP). From tomorrow, 13 July, it will officially become an obsolete product ...

Re: The UK is on Google Street View!

Spotted this fantastic article in the local newspaper: Is it a bird, is it a plane? No, it's a pair of pliers! It starts off as a normal looking terraced house at the entrance to a one-way street in West Bromwich in the West Midlands as evidenced by the link below: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&...
