It should have been 60Hz in hindsight but in my defence it was 1am and I had been up since 8am. And I'm using a TFT monitor so it becomes arbitrary anyway.

I wouldn't buy a computer as such from Tesco or Morrisons or Asda or anywhere like that because they tend to be cheaply made with inferior parts and you're lucky if the bits last 18 months. There are pros and cons to buying various brands though, and there are cons and pros to buying a bunch of bits...

Original Poster: Not worth spending the money on upgrading, you may as well put it towards a new system. Regarding the monitors - LCD monitors are good for people who suffered from eyestrain caused by using CRT monitors. Basically the picture isn't refreshed 50 times a second on an LCD monitor like ...

You are called for Jury Duty by virtue of the fact you're on the Electoral register. Therefore anybody can be called at any time as long as you're on the electoral role. If you're over 70 you can be excused but normally you have to serve (the fine AFAIK is £1000. It can be deferred once but has to b...

MSN became so successful because: A.) It was bundled with every Windows computer since 2000 B.) It was no frills and very simple to use. It had a nice, clean, uncluttered interface C.) Most people had Hotmail addresses from the late 1990s (me included) and it made sense to use it D.) Everyone start...

And who remembers eGroups? It used to be really good before Yahoo took it over in circa 2000/2001. Hotbot.com used to be search engine of choice and ICQ was a must-have! Ahh, nostalgia. Hobot is still with us, though not as we used to know it. Previously a standalone search engine much like Google ...

Re: AOL and connection to the internet

I am looking for some help. My next door neighbours connect to the internet via AOL and they are having problems connection to the internet. Easy solution: Convince them, by hook or by crook, to go with somebody else. Anybody else. If its AOL dial-up PAYG, easily done. Dial-up unmetered, okay, stil...

My thoughts were e.g. the IPv6 stuff that Vista has. Or perhaps Vista has trouble communicating with the router properly. After all, if it were the router or ISP, surely it wouldn't work on other computers too? It's odd, in any case. Vista has no issues with routers and what not, and out of the box...

Re: Do you think Sky Digital is a rip-off?

I've been thinking about biting the bullet and getting Sky Digital with HD. ... Just to get Sky Digital HD going, I'm going to have to spend £989.99 (£390.00 without cost of HDTV set) Over a 1 year period (1 year mandatory contract with Sky): £1,330.99 ($2,611.14 USD) (£731.00 without cost HDTV set...

No, if the installation fucks up, or the CD's just buggered. If the installation screws up, it doesn't matter where you buy it from, they'll just say that its not their problem and there's nothing wrong with the media. Gameworld or PC World or wherever can only be held responsible if they screw up ...

Virtually the same. You just won't get the fancy window-swapping effect that everybody wants.
