Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

I’d be interested to know how you will checkout for this. Currently the store has no obvious room to install a bank of Smart Shop checkouts like I’ve seen in other already enabled stores unless they took out some manned checkouts. Perhaps the new barcode scanners at the manned checkouts will someho...

Re: Yet another Morrisons thread

Apropos of nothing, I thought this thread might enjoy this unusual sight I spotted earlier this week:

And updated branding coming worldwide too. Suggests an interesting shift in their approach to product photography: "No more muddling up the photos with unrealistic props like marble surfaces, cutting boards, glass bowls, and linen tablecloths. We wanted to be more authentic and celebratory of t...

Re: End of MAY

Just a thought and I don't know if it would be possible. The day before the new leader is announced, could May go to Buckingham Palace and ask for permission to dissolve Parliament trigging a General Election? It is said that the Queen doesn't get involved really in politics and leaves that up to h...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Pharmacies operate on a license type deal don't they, whereby the pharmacy has to prove to the NHS that the Pharmacy will in some way fill a gap in demand? Hence why newer ones tend to open late at night, so they can prove they provide a service not already available. It was certainly once the case...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

I took a photo of one to show you just how basic it is. https://up.metropol247.co.uk/Whataday/Screenshot%202019-04-09%20at%208_27_07%20PM.png This doesn't really suggest the sophisticated advertising for which the slogan is known. It's not just unsophisticated, it's also off-brand given that the mu...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

I note with some wry amusement that the Q3 trading statement from M&S partly blames the weather for the falling sales ("an unseasonal October") for the eighth consecutive year. Edit: Actually, I'm mistaken. They didn't blame the weather in last year's Q3 statement, they waited until th...

But you can join the Army I notice. So you can be shot and killed without having a say in how, when and where you get shot and killed. You can join the army at 16 with parental consent, but can only be deployed in hostile situations at 18. I get that army personnell aren't only in danger in pre-ide...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

The plan for WHSmith Local is that the brand will gradually disappear as contracts run out with each retailer. There was some mildly interesting stuff in the coverage of WHSmith's results this week - travel stores now making more than half of the profits, high street stores adopting a strategy of p...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

Gala Bingo has become Buzz Bingo.

Apparently the rebrand has been going on since June, but I only noticed as I drove past two "Buzz Bingo" halls today and thought I'd never heard of it before.

james2001 wrote: Mon 03 Sep, 2018 19.55 First major rebranding since the 80s, surely? Apart from getting rid of the stylised D in the mid-90s anyway.
At first sight, I thought the D in the new logotype echoed that stylised D - but after looking it up, it's rather different to how I remembered it.
