Re: News Corp buy The Wireless Group (formerly UTV Media)

Sky News Radio would be interesting. There already is one, hidden away on one of the transponders. It's the feed to stations for the news on the hour and various other news cuts. It's what replaced the old "IRN feed". Sky News replaced ITN as the news provider to IRN a good few years ago....

Re: TV Forum Watch News and Information Board

A couple of reality check points for you. 1. If there's ever more than 3 or 4 of us in the building at any one time, it's either a training session or a meeting. 2. We don't have the time for morning motivational chants, there's a ton of stuff to do all the time. 3. None of us need extra motivation...

Re: TV Forum Watch News and Information Board

You also don't realise that just because millions watch or listen to something, doesn't automatically make it better than something that is only watched or listened to by a few hundred or a few thousand. There is no correlation between quantity of listeners and viewers and quality of output. ... is...

Re: Why are Media Studies degrees disregarded?

Journalism is a bit different as it is a professional qualification. A degree in 'Journalism' is often just a study of the subject and you'd be unlikely to be able to go and work in a newsroom. Whereas there are vocational courses that will give you practical experience and the necessary qualificati...

Re: The Media.info News and Infomation board

To be fair to cityprod, half of what he is saying regarding filters is largely true - in that people do have an unconscious confirmation bias towards their own point of view which is affected by their own ideological and religious views. Yes that is true, there are a number of cognitive biases that...

Re: The Media.info News and Infomation board

No, that's not what I'm saying. I wasn't talking specifically about particular people, I was talking in broad terms, general terms. Well why didn't you use broad general terms then? This is something I've learned recently. Our brains actually filter the world in specific ways. How they filter the w...

Re: Why are Media Studies degrees disregarded?

The suggestion from one lecturer on my course was that it's because the more people that are media literate and analyse media content, the less they can use the media to influence the masses. The ruling elite benefit need am unquestioning public. Though that's a bit conspiratorial for me and of cour...

Re: The Media.info News and Infomation board

You see, this is part of the problem that I've identified in recent years. There are two forms of reality, co-existing in the same space at the same time. One is actual reality. The other is conservative reality. Actual reality is based on actual evidence and logic. Conservative reality is based mo...

Re: The Media.info News and Infomation board

I mentioned to JC on email last night that I feel the forums have had their day and that the site should concentrate on the directory and jobs side instead, leaving a feedback area only. Yes, the forums aren't useful it's only really the radio one that gets any use (I hadn't realised until today th...
