Re: How much would the licence fee have to rise before you would cancel it?
I don't watch any TV anymore - not even occasionally. I do use streaming services, and I have bought quite a bit of BBC content outright (mostly old comedy shows which I rewatch). I do use its online offerings extensively. As for the TV license, atm many would accept a universal tax to preserve the ...

Re: What's going on with all this gender stuff?
I think it’s worth continuing the thought experiment above by considering a hypothetical female (born F, identifies F) who looks extremely masculine. How much effort should they be expected to go to to be treated as a woman, socially or legally? I would not wish to treat this person differently beca...

It was great to finally see inside the secret forum, but I wish it had stayed open a little longer. I guess there's always 2043...

Reviewing the Predictions
It is time to reopen the time capsule... From cdd: Non-FPTP voting system: fail, but I feel it could have come true if things had gone differently? I’d put it on the list for the next 10 years! UK join the Euro: fail. Weird to think Brexit wasn’t even a topic in 2013. TV channels going: fail, but… d...

Re: Windows 9 is now Windows 10
If you can envisage a scenario where Bing/Edge manage to grow, not even to dominance, but to more than single percentage points of overall usage I'd be very happy to hear it. What they could do is rename "Microsoft Bing" to "Windows Live Search". I think that would be extremely ...

Re: Windows 9 is now Windows 10
Microsoft need to accept that they threw away their dominance in the browser market and if they haven't got it back by now they probably never will, whilst Google's dominance in search is a battle won a long time ago. TBH I think they got their dominance taken away, to a large degree. They were sub...

Re: Windows 9 is now Windows 10
Relatedly, the mystery of that Windows XP OOBE (title.wma) theme came from - which I must have Googled every year since 2001 - was solved a couple of years ago, with this upload.
It wasn't written for Windows XP at all, and rather was just a track they had lying around since Windows 98.

Re: Coronavirus - Strange times
It's a bit like the 'hygiene theatre' of being asked to clean your trolley handle on the way into a store. Mexico has some of the sillier ones. Many shops have decontamination mats (foot-and-mouth throwback…) and one airport lounge had someone with a spray gun covering everyone and their clothes wi...
