Re: Another High Street Rebrand
The Merry Hill Asda was built as a Carrefour, so it could be that they had that layout since it opened, and Asda just carried it over when they aquired it. It was a Gateway before it was an Asda. Footage of it being a Carrefour can be seen in the Spitting Image 1987 election special, of all places....

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
It possibly is a hangover from the Carrefour days, but they would definitely have had the opportunity to change it since, I suppose at the expense of their trading space though.
And yes, it is *that* video. I'm pretty sure everybody of our age saw it a few times as a child.

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
The Merry Hill style seems to be a European type thing where the checkouts have the opening to the mall behind them rather than a wall / windows. Certainly I've seen branches of Real in Germany and Essenlunga in Italy that had this layout with a shopping centre attached. I didn't know that - but wh...

Re: Bonkers new lift at work
His website is a throwback to when every fanboy 13-year-old had their own Geocities. Some generic comapnies replace old lifts that don't need replacing with a lift that will only last 10 years, when the old lift would have lasted a lot longer. I hate these generic companies, A lot of old lifts last ...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
I went to (retail nerd's paradise) Merry Hill yesterday, and found the ASDA setup in the mall quite fascinating. The checkouts were all flush to the mall, so when you took your trolley round you actually left the store. The tobacco kiosk was actually in the middle of the mall. Definitely worth a loo...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
Yeah they went through a time of doing the "ASDA part of the Wal*Mart Family" on the bags and even a nasty green and blue uniform, glad someone sorted that out. Then again the Asda Supermarket Uniform looks a bit rank. There are even a few "ASDA WAL-MART Supercentres", Sheffield...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
Just to add on the rebrand topic found this the other day http://your.asda.com/netto Good find, thanks. The conversion photos and time-lapse video are interesting. It looks like these conversions have been a totally "clean break" - i.e. the Netto format has stayed intact until closing day...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
I strolled in to Netto Scunthorpe at 5pm, on a failed mission to find somewhere in the godforsaken town that would sell me some fresh parmigiana cheese. I managed to walk past several large posters and a whole aisle that had been all-but-stripped before I realised the store was closing for conversio...

Re: TV Forum Watch News and Information Board
Trump does both The Apprentice and the celebrity flavour - but its a pile o' pish. Agreed, I saw the Apprentice USA once and I was rather underwhelmed. It's just wholesale product placement from start to finish. Donald Trump introduced company, executives and product/service. Reminds teams how impo...
