Re: The Very Official McDonalds (and other fast food outlets) Thread

I think essentially Covid has been a great excuse for companies to do away with things they can’t be arsed doing / stocking any more. Doing away with cash has been great for us in my work. Other than the occasional wibblers who kick up a fuss, it’s miles easier, has reduced queuing time, pretty muc...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

there are still businesses around which either don't take card or still have quite high minimum transaction levels (my local Chinese takeaway will not take a card below £15, with my regular order being slightly under that so I have to take cash out specially for them). I have never understood why c...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

Maybe Tesco bods read this forum (!!!) - as so happens the shagged hardware I wrote in the other thread has been replaced in my local Express with two shiny new card-only tills. They're a bit like the ones that Waitrose use, all in one unit. So that's the probable fate which awaits all of the old s...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

They did this in my local Asda, and have seen the hybrid tills in action a few times with staff scanning items through, there was also a little screen that would face the shopper. All now gone since they splashed the budget on a grey tin of paint and new self-service hardware and went into drugs, re...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

Even of the older machines, quite are few are now permanently 'card only' around here. One of the Tesco Express stores I use has down that with their two NCR terminals. So like Wilko have done, everyone paying by cash has to use the kiosk. Maybe Tesco bods read this forum (!!!) - as so happens the ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

I've never noticed any particular signifcant gaps in my local Wilko, there are one or two items that are sold out, but the place does not look ransacked. Maybe it's a regional thing? I suppose the self-service mode on Wilko tills is a bit of a quick-thinking kludge in response to the pandemic, since...

Re: The TSB & Lloyds Bank relaunch news and information board

At least Dundee city centre still has a TSB. From later this month the last remaining TSB in Nottingham city centre will close on the grounds of low usage, with 2 branches remaining on suburban high streets. Strikes me as being a decision made by accountants rather than a sensible rationalisation t...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

They're used in Lidl and Aldi so perhaps they are trying to learn from the competition? Or going in for a potential complete replatform? Some of the very oldest self checkouts must be in the Express stores, the ones in my local are completely battered. Not just in terms of cosmetics but performance,...

Re: The TSB & Lloyds Bank relaunch news and information board

Lets be honest though, they don't care about the staff in the branch any more than any other corporate does. If it suits the business to redeploy they will, if it doesn't they won't. If they tacked onto your letter something like 'at TSB our branch team are front and centre of our passion for custo...
