Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread

I tried to exchange a 10p Bag for Life in Sainsbury's today. Instead of the large bag, they gave me two 5p bags instead. They axed their 10p bag for life at the same time as the free bags, and introduced a 5p bag for life instead. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/shopping-and-consumer-news/11915704/...

Re: "Namby Pamby Day"

So, 4 years on *bump* "Namby Pamby Day" hit England today, with the introduction of the 5p plastic bag surcharge. Obviously anything that will reduce environmental impact is a good idea, but my issue with it is the same as it was 4 years ago - no retailer has bothered seriously looking at...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

Incidentally I meant to post this the other day but I forgot : Homebase Newport Harlech Retail Park is a shrine to the old, chunky stencilled look - all the interior signage remains as was, the outside sign - it's like walking into the late 1990s. No sign of it closing any time soon mind. https://g...

Re: Yet another Morrisons thread

That button also changes the pitch of the beep, if you hold your finger on the button for a couple of seconds.

Re: Yet another Morrisons thread

What sort of things are not automated at Morrisons that are at other supermarkets? In morrisons, this was done using pen and paper. Is this still the practice? I believe the pen and paper has been replaced by a tablet, but all the stock ordering is still put into the tablet by a person looking at t...

Around counters and Bakery yes. Luckily the floor to ceiling wall tiles across the whole store hasn't made a comeback.

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread

Most likely the coin acceptor has an error, so they're running it as Card Only so they can still keep the till open. The coin acceptor is the most sensitive part of the checkout, as it has loads of sensors on it, and just a tiny bit of paper on one of them stops the whole thing working. The newest v...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread

They roll out software updates to even numbered tills one night and then odd numbered the next night, so that if the update fails then there's still some checkouts working. Go back in a day or so and the other half will have been updated as well.

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread

Pressing the card button happens everywhere now. It was introduced about a year back as part of a software update that also means cashiers on manned checkouts have to press a button on the checkout to take a card payment. Before the checkout would pick up the card as soon as it was put into the read...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

I think it's only Locals that are being kitted out with the Mary Ann font, as Superstores are still opening now with the Slab font. The new Wolverhampton store that opens next week is proudly sporting Slab everwhere.

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

Did part of the signage fall down, or did they not bother to cover all the Woolworths signage in the first place?
