Re: "Namby Pamby Day"
They were called Smart Boxes. There was still a few kicking about in the store I worked in in 2008. They had the old (pre-1999) branding, although in fairness so did a good amount of the ambient food packaging then . I suspect it was a case of they didn't sell well, took up loads of space - so were...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
HSBC are planning to rebrand their high street banks to ring-fence it from the rest of the business. A return to Midland Bank perhaps? I see the decision has been made to call the retail operation HSBC UK from 2018 instead of doing anything radical. In other bank-related news, most RBS branches I'v...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread
The 1D barcode won't scan on older tills. The Clubcard app suggests it only works on older tills - I do remember trying in the past and it failing so I don't hold out much hope. Also, any store that does contactless will take Apple Pay Pay, whether they say so or not (I may be misunderstanding your...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread
I note with interest that PayQwiq (which I had previously never heard of) has appeared as a payment option on the self checkouts in a number of Tesco stores in Newcastle. The website says it is a London / Edinburgh trial, but perhaps gearing up for a wider rollout if it is appearing here? Thanks fo...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
I think the Discount UK brand is getting phased out. The Hull branch has closed for a refit and reopens on Friday under a new name, Bargain Buys. The sign was missing today, revealing Woolworths lettering behind it. They were the previous occupants. Yep - http://www.thegrocer.co.uk/companies/bargai...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread
It was the only McDonalds I've visited in the UK where the drinks were self serve. The only McDonald's I've been to anywhere where the drinks were self-serve was the one in Terminal 4 at JFK airport! Straiton in Edinburgh had self serve drinks when it first opened. It got a refit a couple of years ...

Re: The TSB & Lloyds Bank relaunch news and information board
*Slight Bump* Transferring my account across from HSBC to TSB this week. Classic Plus account - 5%AER on all balances up to £2000 in perpetuity (as opposed to Nationwide's which ends after a year). Provisos: Pay in £500+ a month, go paperless. Simple. Don't even need any DDs. Was done in 45 minutes...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread
The Edinburgh Homeplus has never been particularly busy when I've been in. It's located very near a popular retail park but to get to it on foot you have to cross a busy road, so while someone may walk a large distance to a shop within the retail park they are unlikely to walk to Tesco.

What sort of things are not automated at Morrisons that are at other supermarkets?
