Re: Talk to me about 64bit
The main reason (in my eyes) to upgrade, is that 64-bit editions of Windows can see more than 3.2gb of RAM.. 3.33GB, actually. Depends on the chipset and the boards you're using. Can vary between 3.2Gb and 3.5Gb. The main reason it caps out at 3.2-3.5Gb is because the rest of the space is taken up ...

Re: Norton 360: even protects your computer whilst it's off
does anybody know just how much commission those sales assistance make on a sale of norton internet security? it must be worth their while to make stuff up to get the sale and try to scare you by saying that your laptop will get fooked if you don't buy it. Stick Norton 360 on anything and it will b...

Re: Why there is no such thing as a 24 Hour Tesco Store
I have always wondered why businesses with more than one branch in the area don't stagger their sunday opening hours e.g. when there are 3 large Tesco stores in Plymouth what's the point of them all opening 10:30-4:30? To me it would make perfect sense to have one doing 7AM-1PM, one 12PM-6PM, and o...

Re: Windows Vista / 7 Sound Card
I do internet radio and at the moment on my WinXP laptop that works just fine as I can play music and talk over it and run the output to the encoder as "Stereo Mix". My question is can you do this on Vista and more importantly on Windows 7 as I am likely to jack this laptop in on its 4th ...

Re: New server
Right, clear this up for me as I'm not down with the multi-core kids any more: dual quad core is 8 so why is it showing 16? A Quad Core processor is 4 brains on one chip. The majority of "decent" servers are dual-processor setups, which is basically two processors. Two quad-cores for eigh...

Re: Windows 7
Is the pre-order price cheaper than the price it is going to be after release? Think I heard something like that before but I'm not too sure. Any ideas? The pre-order price is the full version. If you got it quick enough it was going for £45, Home Premium E, a bargain considering Microsoft want £17...

Re: Windows 7
Mind you - I shouldn't like to be on the Microsoft helpline when it hits the shops. "It won't let me upgrade...how can I upgrade?" Very silly to restrict an operating system - not only stripping it of a browser but also the ability to perform an upgrade. OK yes I would have clean installe...

Re: Windows 7
The only thing missing from the "Home Premium" edition is the Windows XP compatibility mode. Do I want to pay an extra £40 for that? You don't need it. Download Virtual PC from Microsoft, a free program. Install XP into that. Same effect, works the same, you just have to built the XP your...

Re: Speed up XP
First I'd Defragment the drive You can also do a disc cleanup there. Then Install free CCleaner and use it at weekly or whenever you shut down. Defragging a drive does not a faster computer make unless it's heavily fragmented. A defrag will not speed a PC up with 256Mb of memory, you may as well sa...

Re: Windows 7
Anyone know where I can ind a driver for my graphics card by the way? its a Mobile Intel(R) 45 Express Chipset Family for a Samsung R510 laptop now running Win 7? Anyone? Windows Update had a lot of Intel drivers for Vista machines so you may find one there. Alternatively since Windows 7 is effecti...

Re: I Hate Roundabouts
1. One feels you should be able to start in one lane and go all the way around, never changing lanes if your choice is correct. The problem is, if you don't know the roundabout, you cAn't be sure of which entry lane is for your exit. This is what the big signs are for prior to the roundabout to the...
