Re: Media Talk Forum Watch News and Information Board

Still not sure I understand why this needs to exist.

Re: How much would the licence fee have to rise before you would cancel it?

I still think lumping it in with council tax is the way forward. Council tax discounts would neatly apply to tv licensing too, plus it becomes a progressive tax rather than what it is now. Bigger houses pay more, seems fair enough. Being part of council tax also gives it that slight distance from t...

Re: How much would the licence fee have to rise before you would cancel it?

In the news today, a suggestion that next year the TV licence could rise £ 15 to £173 or about £14 per month. For me, it still represents good value. In the same ballpark as Netflix and Disney+, but, I don’t think it could go much higher. I don’t watch too much terrestrial tv these days, and don’t ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Have Poundland shops been closing in your parts? We've had 3 close in recent times near me. Liverpool's Queen's Square shop, St Helens' Church Street Shopping Centre, and the one in Huyton. Not where I live down South, but possibly they're *still* rationalising the store estate from the 99p Stores ...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread

I'm still on Visa with Natwest when they were just starting to issue Mastercard replacements when I had my card replaced in 2022. Not that it's a major issue, but it's clearly a long process to move everyone across. It's still valid until 2025. 6 of my 7 Natwest Group cards are now Mastercard. Thre...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread

Indeed, Natwest Group are gradually dropping all the unique branding elements from RBS other than the logo. The new credit cards have a square notch, which appears to be a Mastercard initiative: https://www.mastercard.com/news/press/2021/october/mastercard-introduces-accessible-card-for-blind-and-pa...

It's a shame the lovely 20s signage has been covered over again.

Gone are the days of people would just jump out their seat and line up round the block in all weathers for the latest iphone. Not so sure... https://appleinsider.com/articles/23/09/22/apple-stores-worldwide----including-china----are-packed-for-iphone-15 I happened to be at The Trafford Centre on Se...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

A little bit more effort with the Poundland temporary signage in Seaham's former Wilko. https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/23871447.poundland-opens-old-wilko-store-byron-place-seaham/?ref=socialflow Yes, they appear to have secured a supply of teal stick on vinyl to cover up the Wilko burgundy.

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread

apparently they've finally updated their ancient banking app so you don't need the stupid wee calculator card reader to send tiny amounts of money any more. i'm a shameless "oh i'll sort the bill" person on nights out (I want the Amex points) but there was always one colleague who used pa...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

It's really bizarre their approach with Wilko. I really don't know why but I have a feeling in the future that Wilko will return in some form on the high street even if it's just effectively a mini Range. They probably just didn't want to spend millions to buy the current pretty awful estate. It se...
