Re: Scottish independence

The United Kingdom and Scottish Governments are committed, through the Memorandum of Understanding 4 between them and others, to working together on matters of mutual interest and to the principles of good communication and mutual respect . The two governments have reached this agreement in that sp...

Re: Scottish independence

mdta - the question of Scotland being independent does affect the rest of the UK, but if affects Scotland far more. That's kind of the point of self-determination: you don't let someone else decide it for you. I don't disagree that the decision on Scotland becoming independent is for the Scottish p...

Re: Scottish independence

In my case its not about the status quo being under threat, it is about being sick and tired of hearing about a decision the majority of us in the UK have no say in. It has turned into an attack on the Conservative and UKIP parties (both of which I hate as much as the Scots seem to). I want the deci...

Re: 2015 UK Election

We'll see. The Routemasters were not immediately popular in London but they're now hailed as the best bus London ever had. The recognition that London's needs are like no other is the most positive bit for me. I say all this, I'd definitely not vote for Boris if I were a Londoner. The new Routemast...

Re: 2015 UK Election

All Boris has done was represent the Olympics which Ken Livingstone's team won. He popularised the Cycle-Hire scheme with Ken Livingstone began. And he replaced the pushchair and wheelchair friendly (but unpopular) "Bendy Buses" with the modern Routemasters which are much less useful for t...

Re: Salmond vs Darling: The Debates

Its like one party of the couple wanting a divorce on specious grounds (arguable) and then dictating the terms of the alimony, whilst the other party is not allowed to attend court, or have their say.

Re: Salmond vs Darling: The Debates

I have more of a problem with Scotland, who are voting to leave the UK, then getting to dictate terms after the fact to the rest of us. If they want independence, then be independent!

Re: 2015 UK Election

I think Boris would be a fantastic PM. You can say a lot, a very lot, about him, don't get me wrong. But the guy is arguably the only straight talking guy in politics. Shame what he says is awful right wing conservative piffle. Straight talking is only good, if what they are saying is something you...

Re: Salmond vs Darling: The Debates

If Alex Salmond wins this independence vote, and he wants a currency union, I think it should be for the rest of the UK to decide if Scotland gets that right. Why should the rest of us take on Scotland as a potential future risk to us?

Re: Salmond vs Darling: The Debates

I don't plan to watch any of the debates. If Scotland's powers that be refuse to solicit the opinions of anyone else outside of Scotland, why should I waste my time. It feels like a selfish decision, which may or may not be made based on a dislike of the Conservatives (which I also dislike) undoing ...
