Re: Tinned food..

Those vans are hermetically sealed (notice the chunky chunky doors), and should be able to hold in the cold for an hour or two. In this sort of weather it's hardly a problem though! If they phoned you to say that a van has broken down, more often than not they are lying - it just sounds better than ...

Re: Tinned food..

i've had quite a few bottles of milk go rancid several days before the sell by date as well as bread having a healthy blue hue only a day or two after buying it. i have eaten bread with mould on in error and it tastes quite metallic but i check each slice more carefully now. That's surely because y...

Re: The OFFICIAL* Metropoll election sweepstake

Of course, the idea being that the party's views do not hinge upon whoever happens to lead it. The reality is that leaders of political parties (and everything else, for that) have a different agenda to that of their predecessors.

Re: The OFFICIAL* Metropoll election sweepstake

I agree. A change in leadership for whatever reason should reduce the remaining time in parliament to no more than 6 months.

I guess that does bring in the potential risk of assassination. Is that a consideration?

Re: TVForumish things you do in real life

How the hell do you get ring binders to match in style (over a period of time) and last more than 2 minutes? I attempted using folders for both of my first years at Sixth Form (I buggered off half way through first time...) and I the catches would always fail after about a month, no matter if I spen...

Re: Bow ties

The Doctor is supposed to look odd, not like a flipping aspirational figure. I hate bow ties. They look flipping stupid in any context.

What I'd like (unrealistic): Lib Dem majority

What I'd like (realistically): Hung Parliament with Lib Dems getting a foot in with the balance of power

What I think will happen: Conservative landslide (but not quite on a 1997 scale).

Re: Yet another rebrand thread.

I think Lloyds and HBOS are to remain separate high street entities for the time being at least. BOS in England is generally meant to be for businesses I think.

Re: Yet another rebrand thread.

http://up.metropol247.co.uk/Jake/argos.jpg Can't say I'm a fan. Looks like a cross between Woolworths and one of those discount stores you get on the high street. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/8e/Wellworths.svg/500px-Wellworths.svg.png Don't like either. That curve is a silly log...

Re: Budget Hotels

Go through Hotels.co.uk - stick with a brand if you're not certain but there are some cracking bargains on there. Stayed at Blackpool's wonderful Imperial earlier in the year for £35/night including breakfast.

Re: Talk to me about 64bit

The main reason (in my eyes) to upgrade, is that 64-bit editions of Windows can see more than 3.2gb of RAM. My laptop for example came with 4gb in built, but Vista 32-bit - so effectively the software limited my ability to utilise my hardware fully. Luckily I have access to MSDN (academic alliance),...
