Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

The fact it's what you usually walk through when going to the city centre from the train station makes it even worse. I first saw that vintage Argos about 5 years ago on my first trip to Nottingham. And I did stumble upon it walking to the city centre from the train station. An abandoned Broadmarsh...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

So this weekend my high street branch of Argos closes and moves into a concession within Sainsbury's 300 yards away. I genuinely never saw this happening especially as there isn't sufficient room inside the branch for Sainsbury's, let alone Argos as well. Generally, I have been impressed with how w...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread

Tesco now recruiting for 'mystery new format' stores. Apparently they will be run as a separate operation from the rest of their store estate. Strongly reckoned that they are going to tackle Lidl and Aldi head on and the new stores will not use the Tesco name. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-449...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

The merging of these two businesses clearly didn't go well, although their price point was good enough for major chains to use their 'service' which is frankly the worst of the lot. They once delivered a PC smashed up here. I would suggest that myHermes is actually the worst courier service out the...

All Poundworld stores will now close by 10th August. Looks like no sort of rescue was possible.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Not Norwich then. Ashens will be happy. Looks like Bristol's 'Poundworld Plus' at The Galleries Shopping Centre will be surviving a bit longer too. It only had a refit and rebrand from Bargain Buys last year too. Can't see Poundland taking it as they already have the ex-99p stores unit on another f...

apparently the most important thing for co-op staff is that they are paid every four weeks, not monthly, meaning they have 13 pay days a year on odd dates. So what is the very first thing on the homepage?
Don't Tesco also do that?

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

Retail Week is reporting a planned major rebrand by John Lewis and Waitrose to "John Lewis & Partners" and "Waitrose & Partners" respectively. Gut reaction: feels like a bit of a stunt that'll be forgotten in a couple of years. Though, in fairness, that's not usually JLP's style. Can't think why. I...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

House of Fraser: Rumours of my death, etc... More like 'crisis? what crisis?'. I'd be surprised if they made it to Christmas. 31 stores, including Oxford Street to close . Jenners of Edinburgh and Frasers in Glasgow will remain - they're both beautiful buildings and I can't see them remaining quite...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

Something a little different, everyone's favourite pay day lender The Money Shop have abandoned their 2016 rebrand and gone back to their old logo with the abortive rebrand never moving beyond the website, POS and a handful of stores. Evidently didn't have the budget to get it done and realised the ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Thats even more M&S stores to go... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-44197128 .... Newton Abbot (Outlet store) .... Newton Abbot is both a surprise and not. It seemed to be reclassified as an 'outlet' store more as a way of avoiding paying for a refit rather than anything else. Apart from a few ...
