Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

HMV has been bought by Sunrise Records, who already owned HMV Canada. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47127520 The list of HMV store closures has been released... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47132310 Interesting to note that four of the stores closing are the Fopp brand, which is quite ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Going back to HMV, if Ashley gets the business, I won't be surprised if he moves some of those small HMV stores that are in the same town as a House of Fraser or even a large Sports Direct into those stores. It's about utilising the space under utilised in those HOF department stores. It can be don...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

In Cambridge whilst the HMV store closed a while ago there is a branch of Fopp, which it transpires is owned by HMV. The Fopp store seemed smaller in size than some of the HMV stores I've been in, however had a similar range of products. With HMV back in administration I wonder whether Fopp will be ...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

Did anyone notice Poundstretchers did buy out part of Poundworld and along with Bargin buys name. I don't think they bought it, they just started using it. Interestingly it does not appear to have been trademarked until last month, when the administrators registered it . Poundstretcher then submitt...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Both chains are pretty much doomed. House of Fraser probably has months rather than years now. Debenhams will be down to tens of stores within 5 years, if they haven't completely retreated online. I'm not sure what merging the chains would achieve personally; other than duplication. Interestingly D...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

so in terms of the scale of that refit, how big are we talking? obv that video is designed to look impressive but what i saw was as follows, please correct me where i'm wrong - repairs to base paint work where worn, but main livery being a cheaper vinyl job - dismantled tables and chairs for new ca...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Mezzanines were removed? Yep, Bunnings removed the mezzanine from my Homebase in Sittingbourne when they converted it. It was used by Homebase for the kitchen and bathroom showroom areas. Strange decision to actually decrease the amount of trading space, especially as one of Bunnings' supposed adva...

Re: Windows 9 is now Windows 10

If it could just accept the fact I don't want to use fucking Edge and leave me alone that would be great. "Hey your battery is running low - if you switch to Edge you wouldn't ever need to recharge again". "Did you know Edge is already installed on your device and it's super fast, why not use it?" ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

Went into Maplin in Croydon today, even with 10% off and the massive 'CLOSING DOWN SALE' banners which have become so familiar since Woolies, they can't shift the stock. The same banners were present in their store near Goodge Street tube station. I was looking at the powerline network adaptors the...

Re: Windows 9 is now Windows 10

The latest (Creative Falls?) update has also been a bit of a pain at my workplace. The previous version updates had given a clear option of choosing a time or at least waiting until you to restart the PC. Whereas this time initially a prompt appeared with the option to postpone or pick a time. Howev...
