Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
I took a photo of one to show you just how basic it is.

This doesn't really suggest the sophisticated advertising for which the slogan is known.
It's not just unsophisticated, it's also off-brand given ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
I note with some wry amusement that the Q3 trading statement from M&S partly blames the weather for the falling sales ("an unseasonal October") for the eighth consecutive year.
Edit: Actually, I'm mistaken. They didn't blame the weather in last year's Q3 statement, they waited until the full year ...

Re: Brexit
But you can join the Army I notice. So you can be shot and killed without having a say in how, when and where you get shot and killed.
You can join the army at 16 with parental consent, but can only be deployed in hostile situations at 18. I get that army personnell aren't only in danger in pre ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
The plan for WHSmith Local is that the brand will gradually disappear as contracts run out with each retailer.
There was some mildly interesting stuff in the coverage of WHSmith's results this week - travel stores now making more than half of the profits, high street stores adopting a strategy ...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
Gala Bingo has become Buzz Bingo.
Apparently the rebrand has been going on since June, but I only noticed as I drove past two "Buzz Bingo" halls today and thought I'd never heard of it before.

At first sight, I thought the D in the new logotype echoed that stylised D - but after looking it up, it's rather different to how I remembered it.james2001 wrote: Mon 03 Sep, 2018 19.55 First major rebranding since the 80s, surely? Apart from getting rid of the stylised D in the mid-90s anyway.

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread
That's a problem I have in my local Sainsbury's- I got a £10 gift card for my birthday and the sort of stuff I would have spent it on was in those sections and was taken away when they moved the Argos into there. All that sort of stuff is still for sale in the Argos, but I can't use the gift card ...

Re: The Tesco & Other non-Morrisons Supermarket Thread
Not quite sure about the new Finest look. They have stepped back to the old look but I don't like the new font of the product description.
I was surprised to see this rebrand crop up in the business press again this week - apparently, it has contributed to a reduction in the amount of (non ...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand
Retail Week is reporting a planned major rebrand by John Lewis and Waitrose to "John Lewis & Partners" and "Waitrose & Partners" respectively.
Gut reaction: feels like a bit of a stunt that'll be forgotten in a couple of years. Though, in fairness, that's not usually JLP's style.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Robert Shrimsley's op-ed in today's FT Weekend ("The slow death of WHSmith") is relevant to our recent discussions. It concludes:
Once a high street without a WH Smith seemed unimaginable. Now it seems almost inevitable. Perhaps its future lies solely in the trains-and-planes markets, and maybe ...
