Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

I see Waitrose is planning to open around a hundred convenience stores and refurbish a number of existing stores too. I think convenience stores in the UK are generally quite poor so this’ll be interesting to see. I guess it depends how they're done. The existing Little Waitrose at Jesmond is more ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

a symptom of poor leadership? Sky News are on the case too: https://news.sky.com/story/whats-gone-wrong-at-asda-13196356 Not really much of a surprise they've always been the 'worst' of the supermarket in terms of quality etc and were always going to be the shop that ALDI and LIDL ate away at. Coup...

Re: The Very Official McDonalds (and other fast food outlets) Thread

Not surprised at McDonald's sales dropping. It's a complete waste of money. There's so many independent burger (and other fast food) places popping up all over the place lately and they're all a league above McDonald's and not a million miles away in price. Massive change from 15 year ago when the o...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

The Gosforth one opened as M&S Simply Food, was rebranded to M&S Foodhall, and is now M&S Food… three brands, and it’s not even been open a decade. And the online store finder still lists it as Gosforth Simply Food. Never realised that got rebranded a third time. Must admit I was surpri...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

I think the Simply Food name was replaced by Foodhall a few years ago. Foodhall is stand alone, simply food is franchise at BP garage / moto services. At least that's how it was. It may have been ditched entirely as a brand now. All the food halls, definitely used to be Simply Food at one point tho...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

They're fitting out a new Sainsbury's Local between Shoreditch and Liverpool St, or at least I think it should be a Local as it seems to have no depth, but the signs in the windows so far are suggesting it's just "Sainsbury's". Possible phasing out of the Local brand? It did make me wonde...

https://c7.alamy.com/comp/2BWJW8C/1995-then-brand-new-morrisons-supermarket-darlington-north-east-england-2BWJW8C.jpg - That's a 1990's Morrison's and can remember my local store (Tynemouth) being near identical as they're both a similar age. look how spacious that entrance is compared to the clutt...

Re: Old supermarket signage

Some people here might appreciate the new Morrisons advert where they've attempted to recreate part of old store interiors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vRhsB81gxY That's interesting. Those look like recreations rather than original pieces of old signage (aside from the yellow box fridge, altho...

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

Morrisons have introduced some smaller plastic trollies and wheeled baskets at all stores I believe, alongside the child trollies. They don't seem to have reduced the number of metal trollies at my local Morrisons in response, however. Yeah it seems very specific which stores got them, I know Byker...

Re: Old supermarket signage

The floor tiles in the Foods section in M&S Lewisham has little green diamonds in them - I'm not aware of the vintage but certainly haven't seen them elsewhere. Probably doesn't fall under the remit of 'old signage'. Haven't a picture of them but will make sure to next time I'm in there. 80's/9...
