Re: Public Transport in your particular part of the region

Was always a waste with signage being replaces and trains being repainted every few years as TOCs rebranded or changed. The old British Rail signage style stayed mostly unchanged for around 40 years, the TOC signage that replaced it after the mid-00s was lucky to last 10% of that.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

That one in Doncaster hasn't even been there particularly long either. Used to go there after skating at the dome.

Last time we went, the bloke serving us seemed to be having a bad day as he had a right attitude.

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

I imagine a lot of people don't know that T E Stockwell is the "Tes" in Tesco, a tea company that Jack Cohen (the "Co"in Tesco) bought out in the 1920s, so it's technically not a made up brand unlike the others.

Re: Another High Street Rebrand

I actually still have a John Menzies paper pad and some stationary I bought from there not long before they became WHSmith, not to mention several packs of photos from back when they used to develop them-IIRC they gave you a film every time you had something developed.

"Soderators"- so witty!

And the site is down right now, looks like they've been having technical problems, I've had issues getting into threads all afternoon. That's more likely what's causing the missing posts than "soderaters" (hurr hurr hurr) deleting posts on a whim.

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

One of the Tesco Extras near me now has their spirits in a glass cabinet where you need to press a button and wait a few seconds for it to open, is it like this anywhere else? I'm guessing they must have had booze stolen and this, somehow, is meant to help prevent it.

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

Looked at some other Tesco Prunella Scales adverts, and suprised just how many were filmed in stores with older decor- like with the old cream and red stripes around the perimiter, signs in the typewriter font and one even has the old 70s and 80s sign on the outside prominently displayed in the ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

Prunella Scales has died, which I'm sure is relevant to this thread!

And in Metropol-esque pedantry, let's point out in the first advert that the fishmonger has the old 70s and 80s logo on his ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

That's quite a common way of building supermarkets these days, I've been in several stores like it- Sainsbury's in Crewe, Morrisons in Birmingham, Tesco in Lichfield, there's a Sainsbury's in Sheffield like it that I've been past on the train but not been in as well. Not quite a supermarker, but the ...
