Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
Many years ago at Sainsbury's, the signal that the paper running low was that the tri lights on the pole would flash. However, if the empty plastic core of the till roll was left in the printer, and the new roll sat on top of it, the lights would continue to flash as the till roll was sat too high ...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread
Santander have done the same, mine was swapped to a Mastercard debit fairly recently.

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread
They were moving away from purple as a colour and were using a sort of grey/brown for a while. Presumably they're going back to purple again, but a different shade.

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread
I'd assume these Sainsbury's Argos concessions share storage space with the food store which would otherwise be not used?
Pretty much all their storage space is in the concession unit itself. There's the odd bit of overflow in Sainsbury's warehouse, but the majority is kept in their own space ...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread
I believe the Dundee store is in the process of being refurbished, and that it has finally had Self Checkouts installed, many years after every other store got them.

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread
The Sainsbury's in Ashbourne has finally been refurbished, and so has had all the external signage replaced. I believe this was the last example of the old pre 1999 logo still on a store, so only taken 18 years to finally rebrand the whole company.

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread
It's really got no self scan? That must be the only main Sainsbury's that hasn't then, which is very odd. Sounds very much like a store that's been forgotten about.
One of the store managers told me that it's the only one in the UK without it. She joked they were very excited because previously ...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread
The wooden cladding over the counters is being rolled out to most stores. The only exceptions are stores that haven't had a refit in a number of years, ie the ones that still have the dark blue walls, as the cost of updating the counter area is greater than the amount of money the improved counters ...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread
The self checkouts at my local Sainsbury's local have a new look. I presume this means that they have been updated to Sainsbury's new POS system. When you choose card payment it now asks you to "present card" - hopefully the contactless switch on will be soon.

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread
why's it referred to as Greenwich Blue?
May have something to do with the much lauded and indeed now lamented Greenwich eco-store which opened in 1999, perhaps it was the first to carry the new branding / colour scheme?
That's it. Although in reality the blue colour scheme and different coloured ...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread
It would be nice to see Homebase get a bit of love.
If this deal goes ahead, then it seems certain Sainsbury's will not be showing any love for Homebase and will not be hanging on to it.
Some more details of the proposal were released today (PDF) , and whilst I'm sure a lot of research has gone ...
