Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

All this supermarket chat being reignited got me thinking - I used to live near a supermarket that started as a Safeway, became a Morrisons, then changed to a Somerfield, and now it’s a Sainsbury’s. Anyone else know of a supermarket going through so many different guises?

South Norwood has been ...

You can just type your Nectar card number in like any other barcode on the self checkouts.

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

I think loyalty schemes were considerably more hassle in 2008 than they are now. For a start, you had to have a physical card for each store, which you either had to remember to take with you every time you went or keep in your wallet, which would end up bulging if you shopped in a lot of different ...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

I'd say this is an improvement. You have to open the app to see what your offers are anyway so it's really no big deal to press an 'activate' button. And it's always sucked that you could only get the offers by using SmartShop, especially if you're just getting a couple of things in a Local, so ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

A) I think the staff have bigger things to be dealing with at the moment then printing out signs that people will probably just ignore and B) it’s quite the edge case to have customers coming in with their mobile wallet as the only way to pay and not also have either a physical card with chip and ...

Re: Yet another Morrisons thread

The cooked meat from the deli counter is (generally) cheaper, and (generally) nicer for not having been sweating in plastic packaging for however long, and you can buy as much or as little of it as you need, cut as thinly or thickly as you like it. Plus, you can see it before you buy it, instead of ...

Re: Yet another Morrisons thread

The hot food counter in my local store has just closed, replaced by a heated cabinet. I'd like to think that means you might be able to get served at the deli counter in less than 10 minutes since it's one less counter for a single member of staff to manage, but I wouldn't be surprised if they shut ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

Yeah, I had this happen the other day too. It's definitely new and quite a disconcerting feeling. My Sainsbury's also now has a camera that identifies loose produce when you weigh it, so you don't "accidentally" press the wrong button. It's all making supermarket shopping quite a depressing 1984 ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

The M&S app has a ‘scan as you shop’ function for the food hall with Apple Pay integrated, so no need to visit the checkout at all. It’s extremely handy when just nipping in for one or two things at lunchtime when even the self-checkout queues can be lengthy.

Wow, this is potentially a game ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

I noticed on my recent trip to Asda the other day that there was a load of new POS featuring the older 'Rollback' logo with the big smiley face which they apparently phased out a few years ago but it seems is back again.

I noticed that too... I thought Rollback was a Walmart thing they were ...
