Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
There’s definitely a big cultural difference between the UK and US, where they seem to want “service” that’s (to us) over the top, whereas we just kind of want to be left to it apart from to order and then pay. Don’t recall seeing things just QR codes to order over there last time I went, but man I ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Businesses will tell themselves it’s all gone to shit because of business rates, cost of staff etc etc. The reality is people are eating out less because it’s so bloody expensive these days. Somewhere like TGI used to be buzzing with activity on an evening, now they’re twice the price they were 10 ...

Re: The rise of the dodgy shop
There’s a shop near me that seemed to start off dodgy (bright LED signs, lots of obscure sweets, vapes, bottles of alcopops, brand new Mercedes parked outside all the time etc) but, I think it must have actually done well as a shop as it’s recently turned into a OneStop and now sells a better range ...

Re: Pres Cafe Watch News and Information Board
Interesting to see Stuart trying to relive the days of Worzel and the Barco gaps by constantly bringing up the grid of dots being used on BBC News.
Though at least in Worzel's case it was a real flaw, and not just repeatedly confusing graphic design and a technical error.
Have they thought ...

Re: Public Transport in your particular part of the region
Can’t believe there’s been no mention of the Great British Rail livery here 😱
I quite like it, although it’s a little… I don’t know, lacking in creativity? I think if you asked AI to design a Great British Rail train, we’d get what we’ve ended up with.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
On a semi related note:
if coffee chains continue to replace static behind-counter above-eyeline menus (that can be browsed pretty much at leisure while in a queue) with "dynamic" TV screens that rotate between three or four pages 20 seconds apart, one of those pages being a fecking advert, like ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
Is this something they've been doing elsewhere prior to this?
Yes I've seen those conversions at the Catford and Lewisham superstores.
To their credit, at least Tesco still have staffed checkouts while my nearest Sainsburys will only open them up if there's a demand.
To their credit ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
All this supermarket chat being reignited got me thinking - I used to live near a supermarket that started as a Safeway, became a Morrisons, then changed to a Somerfield, and now it’s a Sainsbury’s. Anyone else know of a supermarket going through so many different guises?

My local mid-refurb Asda has a travelator DOWN to George and homeware. So there.

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
My local Asda is having a big revamp. You’d think - they’ve recently updated their branding so it’ll be consistent with that. Of course not. Big lit-up signs everywhere (as is the current trend) where I’m pleased to say, yet another font has been introduced to the mix.
