Re: The great beverage debate.

Now you see that's the kind of thing that grinds my gears. [/Peter Griffen] The idea that a waiter or sales assistant gets sniffy because a customer asks for something they wouldn't choose for themselves is ridiculous, don't you think? That's where my all purpose kick-them-squaar-in-the-noots comes...

Re: The great beverage debate.

1) Do you prefer coffee or tea? Like them both, but prefer tea. I could quite happily live without coffee, but rarely go a day without at least one cup of tea. Has to be decent tea too, preferably Yorkshire Tea... and there are very few other people I trust to make it for me. I'm always astounded a...

Re: iPhone Apps

But what if they're not in the mood?? What if they're just minding their own business doing the weekly shop in Sainsbury's, and you go up to them in the soup aisle and say, "Excuse me, hi - I was just walking down the highstreet and my iPhone told me that several other gays were in the vicinit...

Re: iPhone Apps

My faves... Sky News TV Plus - like Sky+, but easier to use IMO. WunderRadio Last.fm Dictionary.com Qype Radar - Recommended places of interest / places to eat nearby Sudoku Six Pack App - useful for checking you're doing your gym exercises right. Ocado Skype Shazam - yes it's totally free, and also...

Re: What's the deal with digital radio station on-screen nam

I would imagine the case of the name displayed on DAB sets is decided entirely by the station in question. I once had the job of submitting the RDS info for a commercial station I worked at, ahead of getting new kit at the transmitter. I had to fill in a form, entering the 8-character station name p...

Re: No more inefficent plasma screens

Oh and this is probably relevant; I recently got Sky HD. First box was returned as the sound and vision were frequently out of sync on both live and recorded material. Second box was also returned for the same reason and I've returned to SD Sky+. Many people with Sky+ HD had lip-sync issues a while...

Re: Wolfram Alpha: Google Killer

Now I've decided it's got potential but is rubbish. I think you've hit the nail on the head there. Its knowledge base seems extremely limited at the moment. "How tall is Nelson's Column?" works, but "How tall is the Blackpool Tower?" doesn't. As Hyma mentioned, it seems to be a ...

Re: Tony Butler retires after 60 years in journalism

Sounds like they're victims of the BBC Local 2010 plan, which is a big thing in BBC LR at the moment. Essentially they're trying to make the stations sound more fresh and up-to-date, and shedding the fuddy-duddy, twee image. Some stations need more work than others, and I understand BBC WM is one of...
