Re: "netbooks"?

Oh, and incidentally the very first thing I did when I got my laptop was wipe the existing OS and place Debian on there instead, so bloatware isn't really an issue either.

Re: "netbooks"?

As a network engineer I'm often standing by a router or firewall, sometimes in the middle of a field somewhere by a mast, changing cables with one hand and holding my laptop (acting as nothing more than a terminal emulator) with the other.

In these circumstances I find that a small, lightweight ...

Re: Public Transport: Aisle Seat Etiquette

You mean you people don't drive or have a driver? The only public transport i take has a captain at the helm. Ahoy there, me ole shipmate!
I haven't been a bus or train since i was 19. The rules then were you gave up your seat for the oldies and pregnant women. And discarded your gum under the seat ...

Re: Why and when did you join?

I remember savagegardenkid...

I joined in the very early days (2000-ish) because the previous telly forum I frequented (Rob S's NotBBC) became full of silly people.

Re: Revels

They should evict the person who thought up this silly idea in the first place. They should add the new variety, along with all the ones they got rid of in the first place.

Variety is the spice of life and all that.

Re: Alarm Clock/Scheduling Program

I produced something like this for a ZX Spectrum as one of my first programming efforts. As I recall it took up something like 800 bytes of Z80 assembler.

Makes you wonder what they're feeding the people who make the compilers these days that a proggie like that could use up a third of a megabyte!

Hmmm. Sneaky.

I have been thinking about getting rid of Sky altogether and just having Freeview (and downloading the odd US programme as and when required -- yes it's illegal but to heck with the law) -- £22 for ...

Re: Blu-Ray/HD-DVD Combis

Don't think they ever actually made it over here though. There were a number of models in the US, but I know that Samsung pulled the plug on theirs rather promptly and I believe the only ones that might have been sold here will have been grey imports from the Continent.

Shame really -- lots of ...

Re: Blu-Ray/HD-DVD Combis

Think you're referring to the LG BH-100, which I believe is the only combo unit that went on sale in the UK.

It's still about, but it isn't cheap:

Likewise, and apologies for bringing the subject up in the first place.

The stupid thing is, I actually do look forward to TT's posts. I'm going to be hammered for saying this, but there is occasionally a diverting fact amongst all the dribble
