Re: San Francisco set to pass cell phone radiation law

I see that, in common with every other western country, they're not so interested in having shelf-edge information about the dangers of saturated fat or alcohol; which are infinitely more harmful to large numbers of society.

Gavin Newsom, mayor of San Francisco, did pretty famously push for a ...

Re: Tell me about netbooks

Thanks for the advice and pointers, it definitely does sound as if the quality of the keyboard is important so we'll be going to have a look at some later in the week.

Tell me about netbooks

OK, so my recently (semi-)retired and ageing mother has recently started giving the writing she has always done as a hobby a little more attention. This includes joining an over 60s writing club. Anyway last week they met in the cafe in British Home Stores (and definitely not BHS) and I'm told one ...

Re: Murdoch's web policy

I was once told at a local rag's office that it costs more to print the thing than the cover price, therefore the ads partly subsidise the paper in addition to raising money.

Re: The OFFICIAL* Metropoll election sweepstake

In our constituency our old MP John Horam is standing down, which is a bit of a shame because he is the only one to have been an MP for all three major parties (labour, Tory and SDP) since WWII. I've met him a few times in the past and he was very level-headed, intelligent and genuinely interested ...

Re: The great beverage debate.

I'm going out on a limb and saying that I can't stand either tea or coffee. Never have done and I never will. I just prefer my drinks cold, with plenty of ice, even at this time of year.

My Mum, however, is a different story. She drinks coffee with a passion, but only ever has it with brandy. She's ...

Flirting on Public Transport

It makes the journeys go alot quicker. Yesterday on the tube on the way back from Oxford Street I had a luvely conversation with a gorgeous young man who had me giggling like a school girl. I got some very wierd looks.

It tends to work best on the tube. You have the intimacy factor.

Does anybody ...

Re: BHS

M&S are sick fuckers.

I agree. We have a new swanky out of town shopping 'experience' and at one end of the car park we have a M&S clothes unit, and at the other end the food shop. What's worse than when you go shopping and fancy a drink, then realise you've got to navigate your way through dog ...
