Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
Has anyone else spotted the extremely odd Smug Dairy products still stubbornly hanging around in the major supermarkets?
I have no idea why any supermarket would want them on their shelves or why anyone would want to buy them. It's the worst of both worlds, with a patronising name to boot.
I ...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread
Doesn't make sense why they'd spend money refurbing the branch and then closing it?
You'd have thought not but there are plenty of examples of exactly that.
The only rational explanations I can think of are:
Branch refurbishments tend to hollow out the floor, remove old-fashioned lines of ...

Re: The Barclays and other non-Lloyds/TSB Bank thread
Barclays Taunton...a branch refit apparently will take 3 months.
Good job they're closing early on the Friday for the builders to get a head start, with such a limited timeframe they need every minute they can get!

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
Personally I'm surprised one of the traditional Big 4 haven't split their estate in half. Their massive expansion in the 00's and 10's have left them extremely confused.
Tesco did try it some years ago by launching Jacks in 2018, I think converting some stores and utilising at least one ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
I think there’s a real opportunity for one of the supermarkets to come out with a back to basics ‘we make decent food and charge alright prices’ campaign. Feels like they’ve all got confusing messages at the moment. Probably Sainsbury’s are the closest to getting it right.
Personally I'm ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
Does it all stem from the growth of Aldi and Lidl and the fact everything for the big 4 supermarkets is based on being competitive on price
Only the supermarkets that don’t focus on price can afford the nice stuff like counters
Who's that then? Booths?
Waitrose still have their ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread
Here’s something I don’t get. My local Morrisons has Christmas wrapping paper… AFTER the checkouts.
A lot of the issues in supermarkets come from cutting overnight staff. I worked briefly for one chain who went through it and standards instantly plummet. There’s no real chance to reset, deep ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake
Also, at my nearest store the 4 'self service' conveyor belt trolley tills have been removed. These used to be incredibly frustrating, not least as the scanning and bagging area were temperamental. In its place is an expanded self-service area, with the more familiar (and reliable) style of ...
