Re: Brexit

I hope you're right, cwathen, but given the build up I can't see any deal involving any semblance of Freedom of Movement happening, it'd be far too much of a climb-down. Extension of the transition period would also be a climbdown, but probably one they could get away with if they get the job done b...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

I worked on the counters at JS back in 2008. The waste was absolutely horrific, particularly on the salad bar. what's the waste like on those giant fuck off cakes they always have on the patisserie counter? Not sure, that used to be managed as part of the bakery department rather than counters. I i...

Re: Brexit

Anyone suspect there might be some sort of Brexit compromise deal about to appear? That's the only thing I can think of that's so enraged Cummings and his mate that they've left No. 10 this quickly. Maybe I'm just being hopeful. Yeah it was leaked last week. Boris, Cummings et al were hedging every...

Re: Coronavirus - Strange times

Really? That's reality Will. Its not always pleasant. The fact that we've escalated anything that might cause a Covid death up to the level of being tantamount to genocide and which must be protected against at any cost, whilst writing off the damage being caused in that pursuit as being an unfortu...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

Yes. Has a feature/bug whereby you can keep scanning/tapping/swiping/inserting different Clubcards. This is particularly annoying for me, as I want to pay on my Tesco Premium Credit Card, but doing so drops my Colleague Clubcard (and thus my Colleague Discount, and my Clubcard Plus discounts). There...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

To me the optimum setup involves the Morrisons method of shelf stock being packaged up by the counter staff. Every time I went to the Sainsburys where I used to live, the counters had 3 or 4 staff on them with very few customers. Surely if you want a piece of meat, if there’s nobody on the counter ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

How much of a store's weekly profit comes from those vouchers they force on you with every purchase?

Or the chuggers they position in stores?

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

Sainsbury's didn't sell fireworks this year. They stopped in 2019 as a cost-cutting measure. It was a sensible decision considering that for the majority of the time when they were on sale that a member of staff would be standing there not selling many, except for the day or two before November 5th...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

I worked on the counters at JS back in 2008. The waste was absolutely horrific, particularly on the salad bar. Even then the word was they weren't profitable, but were loss leaders to get the more affluent customers in. Anecdotally I would suggest usage has been in constant decline throughout most o...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

https://www.facebook.com/DobbiesGC/videos/860761001127494/?vh=e&d=n Thought this was interesting - Sainsburys range in Dobbies (and according to the comments, spreading to all their stores) - especially given their previous ownership by Tesco. Funny how things change. It used to be the case tha...
