Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

If those scanners are replacing the mag stripe/QR code physical nectar cards, they'll need to update the SmartShop readers which only unlock the portable barcode readers with a mag stripe which have only been installed in my local store. You can also type the number in (or rather the half of it whi...

Just come across this, “New Nectar” with a purple colour scheme:

That's been used since the Isle of Wight trials. It's also appearing rapidly on Esso totems currently.

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

I mostly use the self-checkouts, but I noticed Sainsbury's staffed tills now have little barcode/image scanners attached to the Chip and PIN device. Couldn't really see anything about this online, other than in the tweet below (not my content). Presumably something to do with payment is in the work...

Re: Yet another Morrisons thread

didn't Safeway have packing area dividers 25 years ago? Iceland had them in the 90s for sure. I have a feeling Kwik Save or Food Giant might have too. Distinctly remember playing with them as a child. I'm pretty sure Kwik Save didn't have them as their checkouts were really short so that the items ...

Re: Yet another Morrisons thread

It's an indication of how quickly the game has changed from building/extending as quickly as possible (lest a competitor gets there first) to closing failing sites without fear of a full-sized competitor taking it.

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

A new one on me today at Euro Garages Bangor: Sainsburys On The Go; a very small, WHSmith Travel style shop mainly selling sandwiches, crisps, vapes (a lot of vapes) and a surprisingly well stocked condiments and tinned goods section. Seems to be a trial at several Euro Garages that began in May. h...

Re: Public Transport in your particular part of the region

Fun fact, the government sold the Pacers to ROSCOs in 1997 for the grand total of £0.00, on the grounds they were life expired.

The ROSCOs have since loaned them out for a five-figure per-unit annual rental, with almost 0 investment from them in the fleet during that period.

It's disgraceful.

All bar one of the Lidls near me have self-scans now. The purpose built one is a very nice shop indeed.

Re: Yet another Morrisons thread

That's brilliant, thank you. I wonder if that store had literally just lost its Safeway branding at that point.
