The new self-service has a camera pointed on you and a monitor showing this, with both a cordless barcode scanner and a fixed one (the latter of which doesn't seem to work).
Boots and Asda do the camera thing too.
Sainsbury's seem to have been rolling it out as well.

Re: Fuel situation in your area

I live in a town of around 25,000 people with four petrol stations. They all had queues at 0600 according to Google Maps. The Sainsbury's ran out yesterday and then received a delivery late afternoon/early evening. That stock was exhausted mid morning but they have since had another delivery. Some o...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

How wonderful a store that told people on entry. Sadly my local store didn't. It was left to the poor person handling Smartcheck and self service tills to advise it wasn't working and try and find an answer for people. Unfortunately for me that involved phoning someone and asking them to bring a car...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

It's a big difference between Sainsbury's and Morrisons - all the Morrisons counters are back open and have been for weeks. Our Sainsbury's has the pizza counter open and hot food. Three have been open a few weeks and we thought more of them might have by now. The cafe is open though it had no cust...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

It'll be interesting to see how Asda unpicks itself from Walmart's infrastructure and influence. What happens to George? I hope it doesn't mean the end of Asda's very keen fuel pricing policy; for years they have consistently been a negative influence on fuel pricing in any area they serve. Walmart...

Re: Coronavirus - Strange times

On a different matter - anyone else a little bit unsettled by how every business has decided that Zoom is an acceptable long term solution for meetings? If Zoom ever failed (even if only for a day) the consequences for business not getting done is rapidly becoming dire. I think the impact would dif...

Re: Coronavirus - Strange times

Pret skews middle class London based journalists pretty highly. See also the way every journalist spoke about Greggs sausage rolls as if they were from another planet, the last time they were in the news. Yes if they wanted to be less London centric they’d focus on Greggs rather than Pret, and prob...

Waitrose is to merge their loyalty card scheme with John Lewis. https://www.thegrocer.co.uk/service-and-availability/john-lewis-and-waitrose-to-roll-out-joint-loyalty-scheme/648462.article?fbclid=IwAR21GdIxdzZN5Qgz11R5C_Anzlw0mpUcq_enxj8n4xORaOWg1eiXNnpGHSs I was confused by this because I thought ...

Re: The Unofficial Sainsbury's Thread

I wouldn't be surprised if rent is paid to the parent company from 'Argos Limited' for those concessions. It's no different to commercial radio, where the local businesses that operate the licence pay fees to the larger company such as Global or Bauer, although it's the same overall business moving...
