Re: World Service pre-TOTH

Audio of it here - http://up.metropol247.co.uk/Ste/bbc.mp3

Back in the middle of November the BBC said to me in an email that Lillibullero would be returning soon so perhaps this is them testing something before going back to the old TOTH with Lillibullero every 4 hours.

Re: More World Service Cuts

http://swling.com/blog/2012/10/bbc-internal-memo-outlines-year-three-cuts-and-changes-to-the-bbc-world-service/ Internal sources also suggest: nearly all Arabic on shortwave is to end (apart from broadcasts targeting Sudan) the BBC Cyprus relay on SW is to close and English MW from Cyprus is also cl...

Re: More World Service Cuts

Also from BBC Ariel - http://www.bbc.co.uk/ariel/19992872

"Changes to the distribution of shortwave and medium wave will be announced soon". Probably only a couple of hours a day in English to Africa and Asia, I wonder if one of the relay stations will close too.

Definitely gone, I recorded 24 hours of the Africa web stream and it wasn't played once whereas it used to be played about every 4 hours.

Re: World Service to axe The World Today

I hope they include some of the features from Network Africa to make it a more interesting programme. I listen to it sometimes either via the stream online or shortwave (17830khz from 7:00GMT is very clear for me) and features like proverb of the day, the music segments and Resident Presidents would...

Re: World Service to axe The World Today

It will probably have more content actually broadcast from Africa in the programme. The only bit from Africa except reports on Network Africa is the news bulletin which are often read by Tom Jappani in the Nairobi studio. Although I have always wondered why they do this just for the news bulletin an...

Re: Lillibullero

That recording was from 12010khz at midnight UK time (2300GMT) which is from the East Asia relay station in Thailand. Bow Bells is played every night on that frequency and at the start of the it broadcast is received quite well in the UK but gets progressively worse throughout the hour. I've heard B...

Re: Lillibullero

Meanwhile, back on topic: Here is an alternate version of Lilli used as the theme tune to the Persian TV music programme 'Kook'. Another alternative version I saw from a post on TVF of an old BBC World Service TV video. On the video at about 3:02 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t70jZkxEu0 Also here...
