Re: Aggressive charity ads

Well no, they wouldn't have anything to say about that. They're dead. Assuming you're referring to compensation, why should modern-day Africans gain financially from the suffering of their 200-year-old ancestors? Because the suffering went on until a lot more recently than 200 years ago. You could ...

Re: Aggressive charity ads

On a more sincere note: given how much Britain has taken from, for example, African nations, should we not try and make things right by helping them out? What did we take from African nations exactly? Did..did you miss the few hundred years of history when the British were annexing bits of territor...

Re: Adverts that irritate and entertain

Re: Proportional Representation

I can't imagine that being too popular, I thought the point was to try and make it easier to vote? Re: Old City Pictures

I love this kind of thing. This is the Manchester Unity Building, a fantastic art-deco building in the centre of the CBD here, on the corner of the busier streets, Collins and Swanston. This is, I believe, looking up Swanston St. towards the building shortly after it opened in the middle of the Grea...

Re: Budget Hotels

Or if you fancy it, youth hostel? I've stayed in some remarkably lovely ones in the past. I know, I know... Rowan in a youth hostel?! I dunno how they are in the UK but there are some pretty good ones around here; often they're just converted hotels. I stayed in a bunch of them up and down New Zeal...

I think the main thing that people missed from the stores shutting down was the wireless, which was free if you were on Telstra at the time.
