Indeed. It is very expensive, however that figure represents deploying the 1 to 1 Learning Solution at EVERY school in Broward County (there are upwards of 250, not inclusive of adult learning centres and the like).

My thoughts were to roll it out at select schools, such as Magnet schools or ...

Gavin,

The article in the Miami Herald has the information concerning pricing. During the negotiations I wasn't privied to that information, and I know Apple had to significant cut the price as well as extend the warranty to 5 years to make the sale.

Look in my initial post for the link to the ...

Dare I perhaps venture the suggestion that Apple's motives are less to do with helping future generations learn, and more to do with ensuring they familiarise themselves with Mac products at an early age?

Surely not.

C@t,

This has been a concerned raised by the anti-Mac circle a number of ...

Laptops for Students

As some of you may know, I'm now working for Apple Computer as a Sr Systems Engineer attached to the Broward County Public Schools account here in Florida. Basically, the district either buys Crooked Es (Dells) or they buy Macs. The ratio is about 80% Mac to 20% Dell with around 100,000 or so ...

HBK,

Themes directly contradict Apple's strict Human Interface Guidelines... therefore, you will never see Apple ship an operating system that directly supports theming without a 3rd party application. Fortunately for us, though, there are tools like Unsanity's ShapeShifter that do an excellent job ...

Fireboy,

In terms of performance there are no real differences between the eMac and the current revision iMac G4. Aside from a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 AGP 4x card in the iMac, the eMac is a sure performer. We at Apple sell about three thousand of those a year into the Broward school district (the ...

Buying an individual track is what made the iTunes Music Store so popular. I hated having to go into a music store and buy an entire CD when all I wanted was just one song... and, it was even more infuriating when there were no singles of that song available.

Plus being able to listen to a nice ...

Anyone have any idea when the store is actually launching?

The buzz in Apple's Developer Community is that it is supposed to launch at some point over the summer, possibly following the release of iTunes 4.3 or iTunes 5.0. (iTunes 4.1/4.2 brought the Music Store to US AOL customers and Windows ...

In my experiences using Windows, the only system requirement I was required to have was functioning CTRL, ALT and DELETE keys on the keyboard. That's why I switched to a Mac. Even running Windows on Virtual PC it still crashes which has become more of an amusement rather than a nuisance.

If you can Martin, try and find an early model PowerBook G4 around the same price... the G3 is a proven performer but incredibly slow. It won't do any modern graphics/3D/video apps any justice. Plus, it can't take advantage of any of the newer Mac OS X technologies like Quartz Extreme.

However, if ...
