Re: What's going on with all this gender stuff?

The judgment does not provide any moral clarity at all (nor is it meant to). It's strictly an interepretation of the text of the law based on various factors, like the meaning of "man" and "woman" in the Sex Discrimination Act 1975, whether it's coherent for a trans man with a GRC to qualify as a ...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

I noticed the advert in the window saying "Shop now in store, pay later with Klarna". I know they're overpriced, but maybe things are worse than I feared.

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

t's a bit grim that all of the cafes are likely to be come Starbucks/Costa, for what it's worth the previous cafes wouldn't charge upwards of £5 for a drink. Certainly, Starbucks for me is a very rare treat now the prices are pushing upwards of £5.

I think in fairness you're not really comparing ...

Really good article from The Spectator about WHSmith

Interesting that it calls out WHS Cornmarket St. This was a slightly weird store that was split in two, the newsagenty bit (25% of the floor area) on the left ...

Re: The Tesco & other non-Morrisons supermarket thread

My boyfriend works at the Sainsbury's in Dundee and he says they've just filled the former cafe space with a Starbucks (it was still boarded up when I was last there). He's gutted about the pizza counter going as well.

I think for this you have to apply the Norton Test.

If you can buy a computer from Curry's without someone trying to scare you into buying a copy of Norton Antivirus, then the spirit of their existence is gone.

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

I stumbled across this screenshot of mine (upload date: 2012) as the voucher offers on some credit card, and it looks like a who's who of failed or failing stores.

What are the chances the number of closed options is >50% before the end of next year? Frasers, HMV and Homebase have to be the ones ...

Re: The Twitter eXodus

I still find X useful for certian niche interests, but it has become a version of #DontReadTheComments because if you do they'll just be a combination of hate speech, people with blue ticks outputting AI slop, and porn. (Sometimes all at the same time!). Of the three, I find the LLM slop to be the ...

I’ve figured out the tories’ election strategy:
  1. Become as disliked as possible
  2. ???
  3. Profit
