Re: The Technology Thread

Have you not considered a decent pair of wireless buds? I wouldn’t be without my AirPods Pro, not perfect but great for on the go and it is nice not having to fight the cable

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-68295306# Rekom, owner of various night clubs and venues announcing closure of a number of sites. Around me, pretty much all the proper night clubs have closed now - closest at least an hours drive away. Thing is, they never were cheap places to go and now people ...

Re: With all the recent inflationary price rises, is there stuff you just won’t pay for now?

I've gone from contract phones to PAYG SIM Only with 1pMobile. Fortunately I was able to pay for a mid-range Samsung upfront which negates the cost of the handset from my mobile costs. Yeah, forgot about mobile phones… same here, just on SIM only plans and purchased my phone outright. Probably 10 y...

With all the recent inflationary price rises, is there stuff you just won’t pay for now?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-68250127.amp Prompted by news of the recent Ring doorbell price increase (personally, I find the notion of paying a monthly sub for a door bell insanity) are there things that technically, you could of course afford, but just cross the line of what you are prepa...

Re: The rise of the dodgy shop

Not entirely on topic, but as vape shops were mentioned in the post, it has me thinking, what's going to happen to them? By the end of the year they're going to find 95%+ of their products banned, and what remains put in plain packaging and behind the counter, I'm guessing it won't be a viable busi...

I can remember all the ladies in my life used to be mad about the Body Shop, in the late 1990s - to early 2000s, not seen anything branded by them in any of our bathroo...

The rise of the dodgy shop

Now, I live in a fairly quiet rural area, but have friends and family dotted around various small market towns nearby. One thing I’ve noticed, really since lockdown is the proliferation of shops that sell nothing in particular - fizzy drinks, prime, vapes or barber shops that just seem to be open at...

Re: Fragrances

My daughter got me a selection of Ted Baker body sprays for Christmas and I must say, very nice to indeed. Only tried the “vintage amber” one so far, smells what I’d describe as “very clean”.

Re: How much would the licence fee have to rise before you would cancel it?

I’d probably agree with that. I do always turn to the BBC for major events though, but in terms of entertainment I can’t say I’ve watched or looked forward to watching anything on any BBC channel for a very long time. Maybe I last sat down and watched the Jill Dando documentary in 2019. I also quest...

How much would the licence fee have to rise before you would cancel it?

In the news today, a suggestion that next year the TV licence could rise £ 15 to £173 or about £14 per month. For me, it still represents good value. In the same ballpark as Netflix and Disney+, but, I don’t think it could go much higher. I don’t watch too much terrestrial tv these days, and don’t l...
