Re: Front door legalities

are you sure it's a legal requirement to display your house number? i have lived for many years in a house without a number... never had an issue, mind you, the ones either side 101, 105 etc. i can't imagine any local authorities have the resources to investigate such trifles - the local authority u...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

probably a good time to make some predictions about which retailers will kick the bucket in 2019. I'm going to ignore HMV - i can't imagine there is really a viable business left, or worth investing in now - that said, i think what is a surprise to most people is that it limped on as long as it did....

Christmas lights

i absolutely love christmas lights. i remember as a child being mesmerised by the warm glow of our christmas tree with it's 20 or so little incandescent screw in bulbs casting all those strange shadows and shapes on the wall and ceiling - and that's the thing, as much as i love led lighting, most le...

Obscure connector

Hello everyone, My sister stumbled across this connector, and asked me what it was... after spending several hours googling, I can't find anything which quite matches... it was in amongst some military stuff, but not sure if that is a red herring. it has B1970 imprinted on the side and the central p...

Re: The Very Official McDonalds (and other fast food outlets) Thread

don't go into mcdonalds all that often, but just popped into the Royston services Mcdonalds for a pitstop on the way back from legoland... had table service with these locator beacons which you put on your table with a number. i was half expecting it to flash when your order was coming, but alas no....

Re: Windows 9 is now Windows 10

I’m wondering if anyone here is still using Windows 7 (at home, not forced to at work) as we had a few people here saying they’d even still be using XP after support ended. At work I am responsible for the IT across two sites, with a couple of thousand devices on each. I can tell you, moving to ano...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

I had a wonder into Maplin on Friday on the off chance I'd be able to pick up a bargain.. to be fair, some of the tat was heavily discounted, but anything useful (like HDDs, components), Amazon / ebay is still significantly cheaper. Walking around the store, it's no wonder it went under, but i will ...

Door to door selling

Earlier this evening I was delighted to be disturbed by the sound of a grown man tapping on my door representing, of all things, Gousto food delivery boxes. i'd never really heard of them before, but when i looked online it seems a pretty stupid idea - a expensive tesco delivery service - i can't im...

Re: High Street chain collapse sweepstake

So what are your bets for which retailers are going to die in 2018?

Here's my 2018 deathwatch:

Maplin
Poundland
Toys R Us
Debenhams

Re: Rape kit

So..... Max Clifford is dead. Although this case is different to that of Ched Evans, there are some important parallels, the most important that cases like this I think hit at the limits of our justice system. For victims of crime, justice must be accessible, on the other hand, how can a jury reach ...

i'm on the developer build of Firefox and it's been great for me - significantly more responsive.

I've customised the UI to remove the centred addressbar (which i couldn't get used to), everything else seems better.
